A little less than a decade later, in December 2018, the Modern Whig Party merged with several other independents to form The Alliance Party.But the Whig philosophy has always taken a deeper and broader view than party politics alone could fully embrace. Our purpose is to help sustain the grassroots Whig movement to ensure our government is working in the interests of those it was formed to serve -- all of us, the American people.The idea of reviving the Whig name occurred to members of the American Armed Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2007, and The Modern Whig Party of America was officially formed in Washington, D.C. in December 2009. The Modern Whigs are a pragmatic, common sense, centrist-oriented party where rational solutions trump ideology and integrity trumps impunity. We believe it is our time. Today, with our nation and our world facing more profound challenges than ever, we believe the traditional Whig emphasis on authentic public service, forward thinking, pragmatic planning, common sense and compromise offers the best blueprint for the betterment of our nation and our world. We reject identity politics and race-based affirmative action programs.
Each of us gives all we can to this effort to see this movement grow, and all of us take both pride and pleasure in serving something larger than ourselves. foreign and national security policy is the shield of the American Republic.......all levels of candidates can be good for the party, win or lose, as we are getting the word out and those candidates that win can firmly implant an example of our philosophies of service, character, and courage in their constituent’s minds for all future elections. We believe deeply in the value of courageous service to our country, and we rely on methodology, not ideology, to map a way forward. From the very beginning our sole reason for being has been to serve in the spirit our military veterans understand so completely. We also understand an active, responsive and responsible government is necessary to pull together the will and the resources of the country and get things done, from the national level down to the states, counties and municipalities where we live. I have been searching for an answer to the same question for four years now...Issues involving the well-being of our military personnel are of paramount concern to the Modern Whig Institute.We believe those who sacrifice so much to serve their fellow citizens should be adequately compensated while on active duty, and provided with adequate pensions, health care, job training and other transitional and support services after discharge.For us, treating our veterans and active duty personnel with the respect they deserve is more than a matter of prudent public policy -- it's a matter of our national honor.The Modern Whig Institute is looking for volunteers to host policy Roundtables and Whig Forums on state and local issues.If you'd like to volunteer with fellow Whigs in your area, please select your state and fill out the signup form.
