In Ohio, the egg capsules are produced during the summer. Woods roaches are very similar in appearance to the American roach; flat, oval body, long antennae, spiny legs, chestnut brown color. The color is chestnut brown, with the pronotum and wings edged in white. Development time (from egg to adult) is quite long, ranging from anywhere between 280 to 766 days. Vent screens should be made of wire hardware with mesh holes no larger than ⅛”. Unsuspecting homeowners frequently bring wood roaches into their homes while carrying in firewood. They do not interact with humans except in rare instances when they have been carried into the house on firewood or accidently flown in an open door or window. Seal exterior cracks and crevices with silicone caulk.

Male wood roaches have fully-developed wings and fly quite well.

Both sexes are chestnut brown, and their pronotal shields (the back behind the head) and forewings have white edging. In some cases, controlling Pennsylvania wood cockroaches effectively may require a quarterly pest management service program.

They are commonly referred to as the “wood roach”. Houses situated near forests are especially at risk during the spring and summer. In fact, wood cockroaches don’t survive long in the drier indoor air. During the day they hide in cracks and crevices and other dark sites that provide a warm and humid environment. We may also choose to distribute appropriate insecticide baits and dusts in strategic locations indoors or in garages. A wood cockroach is generally found outside.
Disease-producing organisms such as bacteria, protozoans, and viruses have been found on cockroach bodies.Nymphs and adults are usually found outdoors beneath loose bark in woodpiles, stumps, and hollow trees. When we control for Pennsylvania wood cockroaches,  They’re attracted to light, so they often enter at night through cracks and crevices that let out light. If you’ve got woods surrounding your home, you’re more likely to see them. The Pennsylvania cockroach is normally found in southern states, Midwestern states, and northeastern states. Repair or replace any damaged window screens, as well. Fees for initial treatment may apply. Males are able to fly for short periods while the females are flightless.

Outdoors, wood roaches are usually found under the loose or rotting bark, in tree holes, and in wood piles.

About 55 of the 3,500 or so cockroach species live in the United States, although few of these are the hated household pests that give the entire group a bad name. Pennsylvania wood cockroaches rarely survive indoors, so we rarely administer indoor pest control.

All thrive outdoors but can also be found in homes occasionally.
