Students will analyse the roles, responsibilities, and influence of citizens in a democratic society and explore ways in which people can make a difference in the various communities to which they belong.

Students who wish to engage in summer learning will need to obtain a device and internet access by working with their home school to organize pick-up of the needed device. In the wake of the HWDSB’s released of its tentative return-to-school plan, we parse out the most relevant information for parents and students Also note – Westmount will NOT be offering its typical summer carryforward program this year, due to summer school policy changes at the Ministry of Education.
This year students will be seen by appointment, so book your appointment as soon as possible to see your guidance counsellor before classes fill up.

If you are carrying over a course that you have headstarted, you do not need a guidance appointment but you do need to submit the signed carryover form to your counsellor by no later than June 23 (the sooner the better).Registration is open until June 9 for any Westmount student wishing to take Civics OR Careers this summer with other Westmount students. On-Line courses will be starting on July 6th and ending on July 29, 2020, with Upgrade courses running July 6th to 16th.

COURSE CANCELLATIONS – We are NOT running Grade 9 Geography, both CGC1D and CGC1P.

Thoughtful and intentional education and career/life planning that involves both parents* and educators is essential in ensuring that students make well-informed decisions as they look ahead. Program Dates: July 6 to 16 (Civics), July 17 to 29 (Careers) – Students can take either course or both courses. It is also important that students learn about the fundamentals of financial management, so that they can be informed about and responsible for the implications of their decisions, and better managers of their own lives.The revised Career Studies course will enable students to consolidate and share what they have learned in the four areas of learning of the education and career/life planning framework – Knowing Yourself, Exploring Opportunities, Making Decisions and Setting Goals, and Achieving Goals and Making Transitions – at a key time in their education.
